Representatives from different government and non-government organizations on Monday called for taking multi-stakeholder cooperation to ensure equity and safety of female workers at workplaces.
They made their remarks while speaking at a seminar at Officers’ Club in Dhaka, according a press release.
The coordination meeting was organized by INCIDIN Bangladesh under its GAA project in collaboration with Plan International Bangladesh which is working with the entrepreneurs of RMG sector for promoting equitable and safe work environment for the woman-workers, said the press release.
The coordination meeting was presided over by Dr. Md. Aminul Islam Joint Secretary, Ministry of Youth and Sports.
Dr. Aminul Islam, in his speech stressed the need for multi-stakeholder efforts to ensure gender equity and protection for the woman workers.
He noted that the government has taken many measures to improve the gender equity in general and for the woman workers in particular.
He added that the MoYS has many provisions to build the capacities of young women.
AKM Masud Ali, Executive Director of INCIDIN Bangladesh presented the keynote and informed that already different business groups in the RMG sector have opened their doors for the GAA project to improve on the gender and protection status of the young women in the sector.
He recognized positive changes achieved over the years through the concerted efforts of BGMEA, BKMEA, Government and the trade unions in which the international buyers and brands along with ILO have also played critical roles.
The meeting concluded with a call for further coordination and the group has agreed to continue the GO-NGO coordination process for further engagements.
The meeting was attended by representatives of several ministries including Ministry of Commerce, Ministry of Industry, Ministry of Finance, and Ministry of Social Welfare, Ministry of Youth and Sports, Ministry of Information, Ministry of Women and Children Affairs etc.
